IMP announces expansion at Kensington Hospital, Whangarei

Tuesday, 20 November 2007

ING Medical Properties Trust ("the Trust") today announced that it will partner with Kensington Hospital in Whangarei to develop and fund a new endoscopy/procedures suite at the hospital. This is a direct result of the growth in demand for elective surgical procedures in the region.

Works are expected to commence shortly and are planned for completion early 2008. “After a number of discussions with Kensington Hospital it was clear that there were capacity constraints within the three existing surgical theatres. Developing the new unit benefits both Kensington Hospital and the Trust and recognises the long-term relationship between the two,” said David Carr, General Manager, ING Medical Properties Limited.

The lease for Kensington Hospital expires in 2021.

“As Northland’s only private hospital we are keen to ensure we can meet the steadily increasing demand for private surgical services in our region. By adding an endoscopy/procedures suite we are able to expand our range of services as well as increase our capacity. We have been working closely with ING Medical Properties Trust in making sure the expansion results in a favourable commercial outcome for both the hospital and the Trust. While the completion of the unit forms part of our short-term strategy, we plan to continue working closely with David and his team as the demand for medical and surgical services in the region may present other opportunities,” said Paul Taylor, General Manager of Kensington Hospital Limited.
